  4. Allow instructors to reopen sessions

I made a self-paced module for my students that was supposed to stay open until September 2. There was a glitch in Learning Cataltyics that made the session close on August 31.

I spent over an hour on the phone with technical support with no resolution as to why my session was prematurely terminated or what I could do about it.

It would be helpful if instructors had the ability to reopen a particular session ID, so that if there are glitches like this, they don't have to give students a different session ID number. Having to pass out multiple…

  5. Allow for the managment of multiple sections within a single course

I often teach 4-5 sections of the same course in a semester. I do not set up 5 different mastering courses. That's too much to keep track of. All of my sections get the same course ID, and within Mastering I place them into groups based on sections for easy gradebook filtering. This doesn't integrate with learning catalytics so well. Since all students are in the same masteringclass, they all get placed into the same learning catalytics course. The problem arises when it comes to grades.

To simplify, say I have 2 sections. One meets monday/wednesday, the other meets tuesday/thursday.

  6. Make it possible to assign "the participation weight" for each question, rather than the entire module.

I would like to vary the participation weight for different questions within a module. For example, I would like to count the first two questions of each class at 25% participation and 75% correctness but all the remaining questions to count at 100% participation. Currently, the participation weight set applies to all questions in the entire module.

  8. extra credit

Would love to have the ability to specify questions in my Modules as extra credit questions.

  9. create a Question Type "Fill in a table"

I often have students to fill in a table as they work through in-class activities. Many of my paper worksheets could be converted to LC with this feature. A cool nuance would be a table that could sit "in the background." Students could revisit and populate the table throughout a lecture period, while still having a synchronous session running in the foreground.

  10. Show bigger "uploaded images" when reviewing answers

The current "upload image" questions are great for situations where students need to sketch and annotate their sketches. In particular for out of class assignments.

Unfortunately the image size when reviewing the answers is too small to read most average size handwritings (on a photo of a letter sized paper).

  11. Matching Question Options display

In Matching Questions, the Options that appear in the drop-down menus should be the wording of the Options the question author types in instead of "1st choice," "2nd choice," 3rd choice," etc. It would be clearer to students which option they are selecting.

  12. Drag and drop or copy and paste images into question stems or answers.

I wish I could just cut and past images from ppt or other document; and/or drag and drop an image from my desktop into either question stems or answer blocks. It is a bit tedious to have to upload the image and then drag the image title to the appropriate box.

When I try cut n' paste of images, the image does not always show up or it only half shows up.

  13. Please put the actual items back in the ranking prortion of the ranking questions

At some point in July 2016, the way ranking questions are presented changed.
Formerly, the actual items to be ranked appeared in the drop-down boxes presented to the students.
Now, when the student tries to answer, they are present with "first answer", "second answer", "third answer", ...
This requires that the student constantly refer back to the list of items. This is confusing and cumbersome, particularly on a device with a small screen.
i suspect this is a programming error in which the program was toald to actually display the words "first answer" rather than reference the actual first answer. …

  14. Make Pearson PPT quiz/clicker questions available for use in LC.

The textbooks I use have Power Point presentations with quiz questions for each chapter (available within instructor resources). Migrating these questions to LC, and making them available would be very helpful.

  15. Allow students to submit anonymous responses to questions.

I wish to poll my class, but they should be able to answer anonymously. Otherwise, I can't ask questions that might be considered personal.

  16. Countdown timer should be displayed on students devices

The countdown timer in automatic pacing, as well as the round clock that counts submitted answers, currently appear only on the instructors screen and on the window projected in the classroom.

If the instructor is not using a projector, he has to orally remind students of the remaining time. Please show the timer and clock on students devices.

Another detail: on the student window that is projected, the countdown timer has colours red on blue, which are very hard to read. Please change the color.

  17. Make the PPT upload useable

I tried out the PPT upload option today. Great idea but the execution makes it useless. PPT is so compressed that it's tiny and very low quality. The fonts are messed-up so the text elements overlap. Lack of PPT integration is the number one issue my faculty have with LC and the PPT is too problematic for me to suggest it to them.

My suggestion is to not compress the PPT files or compress them less so they can be full-screen and high quality. Otherwise this feature is useless.

  18. improve the library search mechanism

I find it incredibly difficult to search the library for questions. Some possible improvements:
    1) Allow for wildcard keyword searches: "*kinematics*" would match both "1d kinematics" and "kinematics 1D" (and a number of others) so that I don't have to repeatedly search and click to look through the various keywords
    2) Instead of just a few words from the beginning of the question, allow toggling of image display (often seeing what graphs are included would more quickly identify a useful question than a few words). One vision of how this might work -- do a google search for "block on…

  19. Allow author testing of questions

For some questions (region, direction) it is often difficult to tell whether you have set up the question properly. It would be great if the author could "test" the question, somewhat like being in student view except just for that question and seeing immediately whether the answer is right or wrong, so that we could play with typical student errors and make sure that they end up being appropriately marked.

  20. Increase the drawing area

The size of the drawing area is small. Can we enlarge it? The people complaining about this aren’t just those using their phones. The drawing space is the same size whether you use a computer, an ipad or a phone so they are all having the same issue.
